Outreach Programs


Traveling Trunk
  • The Traveling Trunk contains engineer’s outfit, conductor’s hat, lanterns, whistles, train magnets, dry erase boards, teacher’s handbook, Power Point, interactive programs, and video.
  • Learn about the history and development of railroading in North Carolina, railroad jobs, and more.
  • Meet's N.C. Standards of Learning for 3rd, 4th and 8th graders.
  • Can be used as a 30-minute program or up to a three-day activity.
  • NCTM staff member can provide a 30-minute classroom or assembly program using the Traveling Trunk with a three week notice for FREE.
  • Teachers can rent the Traveling Trunk for one week.
  • Pick up Traveling Trunk at the museum – $15 refundable deposit
  • Ship Traveling Trunk to you – $15 non-refundable deposit, plus a $15 shipping fee ($30 total)
Operation Life Saver Presentations
  • Learn about railroad crossing safety.
  • Includes a video and discussion.
  • 15-20 minute presentations can be done at the museum or at your school or organization.
