Lancaster and Chester Pre-Conference Tour

Thursday, January 14
Cost: $60 per person

Join us for a rare southeastern short-line mileage treat as part of the 2010 Conference. South Carolina’s Lancaster & Chester Railway will provide a memorable experience for all interested in the region’s colorful railroads–as well as private cars.

After a motorcoach ride to Lancaster, S.C., you’ll tour the L&C railroad shops and the L&C museum to learn the history of this line. Then, you’ll board the train to ride the original 29-mile-long route to Chester. This is the Piedmont region of the Carolinas, with rolling hills, forests, factories and elegant homes lining the route. Lunch will be served on board.

Power for the train will be early SW-type switchers repainted into the as-delivered 1952 paint scheme. The train will include former Chesapeake & Ohio coach 1510, modified for table service; and other private cars, including J. Pinckney Henderson, Golden Tower and Hollywood Beach.
