The N.C. Transportation Museum is hosting its first ever Spring Boy Scout event.  A companion to our very popular Fall Rail Camp program, the museum offers a chance for scouts to visit the museum, learn about aviation history, technology and careers and earn their Aviation Merit Badge - all while having a fun day at the N.C. Transportation Museum!

Pre-registration is required.  Registration ends May 3, 2013. 


From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Boy Scouts will participate in work stations to earn their Aviation Merit Badge, followed by lunch, a train ride and a flying competion with foam model airplanes.

Itinerary:
9am – Noon: Merit Badge Workstations
1) Modern Aircraft and Uses
2)      Aircraft Flight Panel identification
3)      Careers in Aviation
4)      DC-3 exploration
5)      Reading Aeronautical charts /Piedmonster (Flight Simulator) Operation
6)      Building a Foam Plate model airplane
 
Noon - 12:45p.m: Lunch
1pm: Train Ride
2pm: Foam Plate Flying Competition in Lower Parking Lot
 

At the end of the day the scouts will test their foam plate model airplanes in the lower parking lot. Scouts must bring their own materials to build the FP-9 model airplane or a kit can be purchased from the museum for an additional $3.00.
