N.C. Transportation Museum seeks high school aged volunteers

Volunteers needed for “Day Out With Thomas,” Sept. 28-30 and Oct. 5-7

SPENCER, N.C.— Attention high school students: the N.C. Transportation Museum needs you! Volunteer opportunities are available for high school age students to earn community service hours during a “Day Out With Thomas™”, the museum’s largest annual event, slated Sept. 28-30 and Oct. 5-7, 2007.

A Day Out With Thomas attracts more than 30,000 people to the museum over two weekends, and junior volunteers – those under the age of 18 – are needed to assist with many event activities. In the Thomas & Friends™ Imagination Station, students can read stories to children, or help create art works in the craft area. Volunteers are needed to distribute maps and answer questions at the information booth and watch over several children’s play areas. Throughout the day, assistants are also needed at the Sir Topham Hatt™ and Bob the Builder™ meet-and-greet areas and in keeping the gift tent stocked and clean.

High school students who volunteer at a Day Out With Thomas are asked to work at least one eight-hour shift during the six-day event. Students will receive a staff T-shirt, lunch, and official community service hours.

To volunteer at the N.C. Transportation Museum, contact LeAnne Johnson at 704-636-2889 or email volunteer@nctrans.org. For more information about the museum’s volunteer program or a Day Out With Thomas, visit www.nctrans.org.
