Ride behind Norfolk & Western Class J steam locomotive #611 to experience our “Legends by Lantern” tour. Hear the eerie whistle of the N&W 611 as you ride the train from the Barber Junction Visitor’s Center to the Bob Julian Roundhouse, where your tour guide will take you on a lantern-lit tour of some of the spooky haunts of this former Southern Railway landmark.
“Legends by Lantern” celebrates the numerous railroad legends in North Carolina folklore. The tour will also include a behind-the-scenes, after-hours view of a portion of the restoration bays, reportedly still used by Spencer Shops specters.
For those who enjoy lantern tours, old-fashioned legends, and ghost walks, this tour is definitely for you!
This is a rain or shine event, not recommended for children under 6.
This tour is being provided in cooperation with the Virginia Museum of Transportation, owners of the N&W 611.
